Léon Perdigal is a true Rhône Valley legend from the late 19th century. He made his mark as the very first cellarmaster at Ogier’s renowned cellars, which were established back in 1859 in the prestigious Châteauneuf-du-Pape region. Thanks to his passion and expertise, Ogier quickly gained a reputation for crafting exceptional wines. Fast forward over 150 years, and the legacy lives on the ‘Léon Perdigal’ label was created to honour this pioneering figure and continues to represent the high-quality, time-honored winemaking tradition he helped build

The 2018 Léon Perdigal Côtes-du-Rhône is a superb example of a classic southern Rhône blend, artfully crafted from Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Carignan grapes.

Each variety brings its own unique character to the blend: Grenache offers lush, juicy red fruit and a silky texture; Syrah adds depth with dark berry flavors and a peppery spice; Mourvèdre contributes earthy complexity and structure; while Carignan lends a touch of rustic charm and vibrant acidity.

This wine bursts with an incredible punch of rich, ripe fruits. Think ripe cherries, raspberries, and blackberries, with bold spicy notes of black pepper, licorice, and a hint of Mediterranean herbs like thyme and rosemary. There’s also a subtle smoky and earthy undertone that adds layers of sophistication.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied but well-balanced, with soft, velvety tannins and a lively acidity that keeps it fresh and approachable. The finish is long and satisfying, leaving behind lingering flavors of spice and fruit.

Overall, the 2018 Léon Perdigal Côtes-du-Rhône is a vibrant, expressive wine that perfectly captures the essence of the Rhône Valley terroir, robust, complex, and ready to enjoy now or to cellar for a few years to develop even greater depth. It pairs wonderfully with hearty dishes like roasted lamb, grilled vegetables, or a classic ratatouille.

''At the end of the day, you really can’t make a wrong choice.
As long as you pay attention to what it is that you don’t like about a wine
each bottle will get you closer to what you do like.
Take it one glass at a time!''
