Georg and Lisa Weinwurm manages a stunning vineyard in the northernmost wine growing region in Austria, Weinviertel.

A business that is the the pure definition of ALL HANDS ON DECK! It’s like the American sitcom FRIENDS but filmed in Austria and it’s about wine. Not only family is involved, but employees that later to become friends.

I was surprised to find out that in the 1950’s, Georg´s grandfather Anton planted the first vineyard, with what he thought was Grüner Veltliner. However, upon maturation of the grapes themselves, he soon discovered that he’d actually planted the red varietal, Zweigelt. But that didn’t discouraged him, as he saw the good in the bad, as the as the Zweigelt was of great flavours and quality and so it was born their Glücksmoment, ‘Lucky Moment’.

2020 Grüner Veltliner, ‘Tradition’ WEINVIERTEL DAC

A delicious wine with so much freshness that takes you straight to holiday. Beautifully balanced with a subtle peppery flavour, that switches to an elegant fruitiness and crisp apple. A wine that you can taste FUN in just one glass.

2019 Grüner Veltliner Ried Schilling, ‘Hommage’, Reserve Niederösterreich

A different approach on the second wine, that embraces more wisdom and opulence in flavours. It starts with a surprisingly good minerality and a subtle vanilla aroma and a slight butter feel. As you keep going, the wine delivers an abundance of complexity. Some stone fruits appear on the way, floral notes and a pepper, while that vanilla scent comes again and round things up, finishing with an exceptional freshness and aromatic power.

2019 Zweigelt Ried Schilling, ‘Glücksmoment’, Niederösterreich

The result of a happy coincidence that, what’s supposed to be Grüner Veltliner turned out to be a Zweigelt. Who would have thought that this ‘Lucky Moment’, can deliver a wine with such an abundance of flavours. A striking fragrance of soured cherries, chocolate with a touch of oregano that comes through. A fast paced flavoured wine with joyful aromas that work as a team to create this Bacchic experience.

''At the end of the day, you really can’t make a wrong choice.
As long as you pay attention to what it is that you don’t like about a wine
each bottle will get you closer to what you do like.
Take it one glass at a time!''
